Abstract
"This paper has been written with the purpose in mind of discovering how the Texas Rangers were able to bring law, order, and peace to the frontier of Texas. The mode of investigation has been to follow the detailed activity of one company of Rangers over a span of time slightly less than five years in length. A close examination of the record of Company E's activity during the period, suggests that the success of the Ranges, in opening the frontier to peaceful occupation, sprang from methods they employed in their work. The work changed from year to year; the methods remained the same. Always perserverance, determination, and thoroughness stand out as characteristic of the Texas Ranger. Company E performed a commendable part in the work of the entire force..."
