Series IV: Historical Research, 1969-2013
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of applications for historical markers and historical cemeteries, research, notes, correspondence, organizational files, and maps. Historical marker applications were submitted by the Hidalgo County Historical Commission to the Texas Historical Commission Research Department. Marker applications typically include research describing the importance of the location. Files may also include photographs and dedication pamphlets. Collection also contains organizational files from the Hidalgo County Historical Society, which was later re-named to the Hidalgo County Historical Commission.
Series I, Historical Markers I, 1964-2013, consists of applications and research pertaining to historical markers and historical cemeteries.
Series II, Historical Markers II, 1964-2016, consists of applications and research pertaining to historical markers and historical cemeteries.
Series III, Historical Markers Administrative files, 2006-2013, consists of applications, notes, research, and correspondence pertaining to historical markers and historical cemeteries.
Series IV, Historical Research, 1969-2013, consists of research for historical marker applications.
Series V, General, 1929-2015, consists of organizational files, newsletters, notes, and publications.
Series VI, Archives Alert, 1922-1980, consists of photocopies of historic newspaper clippings.
Series VII, Maps, 1884-2011, consists of maps from Cameron and Hidalgo County.

The collection is open for research use.
