Biography

Alberto was born on August 17, 1930, in Rio Grande City, TX. He graduated from Rio Grande City High School in 1948, attended Pan American Junior College in Edinburg, TX and then transferred to Texas A d I College in Kingsville, TX and graduated in 1952. Right after his graduation, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and in 1954, he received an honorable discharge. Alberto had over 52 years' experience as an educator with the Rio Grande City CISD, Pan American University at Edinburg, TX and STC in Rio Grande City, TX. He was also a folklorist and an artist who performed his own compositions in Spain, Mexico and though out the United States. He also did extensive studies while attending Universities such as Colgate University, Oklahoma State University, Universidad de Mexico, University of North Texas, Universidad de Burgos España and La Universidad de Madrid en España.

Folder with two (2) interior pockets, containing (1) 45 rpm vinyl record in a sleeve and (11) typed pages of teacher curriculum for "syllabication".

The Spanish songs on this recording originate from the Mexican American tradition in Texas. Lyrics are provided in both English and Spanish, and an activity sheet suggests ways of using the songs in the classroom. A quiz, also available in both languages, asks the students to divide selected words into syllables.
