She was born in Havana on June 30, 1919 to the pioneer family of Eloisa V. and Ramon Ramirez. She was the descendent of the early settlers Josefa De La Garza Salinas and Civil War Union Soldier Patricio Perez. She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Alaniz Sr., grandson Scott Hartung, and son-in-law Curt Hartung. She is survived by her five children Lee Roy Alaniz (Alma), Glora Lignoski (Kenneth), Manuel Alaniz Jr. (Diana), Linda Wyatt (Dean), and Mary Garza (Erasmo Jr.). She is also survived by her fifteen grandchildren Le-ann Alaniz-Herrera, Brian Hartung, Shannon Hartung, Roselyn Alaniz, Gerardo Alaniz, Richard Alaniz, Kevin Hartung, Mark Hartung, Jason Alaniz, Selina Alaniz, Ryne Ponce, Danielle Hartung, Randy Ponce, Bobby Ponce, Aaron Reyes, and ten great-grandchildren. Delia graduated from Nellie Schunior High School in La Joya, Texas in 1937. On December 11, 2005 she was awarded the first ever President Pioneer Award by the Mission Historical Museum for her family's long tenure on the Spanish land grant porcion 46 and their contributions to the development of the Mission area. She authored the book entitled Havana Legacy and two screenplays The Living Dead and The Miracle.
