Biography
The Hidalgo County Historical Commission is generally responsible for identifying, researching or coordinating research, and reviewing all applications for state historical markers before they are sent to the Texas Historical Commission (Austin). Also, they generally coordinate the actual marker dedication as well as marker maintenance. They also serve as advisors to their county commissioners court on matters of historic preservation. The HCHC is a responsible for the preservation of countless historic buildings, artifacts, documents and other pieces of Texas history in Hidalgo County.
